The locomotive was pushed along by another locomotive until it reached the required speed at which point the loco which was to hit the car was sent on its merry way. houghtonga ::: Favorites Trains have smooth steel wheels and run on smooth steel rails (no grip) and some are as heavy as 2,000 to 3,000 tonnes - the stopping distances are from half to 3/4 of a mile depending on the speed. The loco involved in the film weighed 104 tonnes and freight trains in the UK are typically 2,000 - 3,000 tonnes. (Some in the West Country are nearly 5,000 tonnes!). Theonetheycalloddman ::: Favorites I think they wait till the hit really, but most trains try and stop, unlike in my town when one lady pulled out on the tracks with her 3 year old daughter in her car and sat there, then said she never heard the train coming...
