Description: iLounge: ipod Nano 3rd Gen navigation question While a song plays, if you MENU-MENU back to top-level menu, the ipod goes into a "presentation mode" where the left-menu column shown menu options, but right column displays gracefully-slowly-moving cover-art for items in your collection (like a screensaver). Each album art dissolves to next album art and the next etc -- probably reminding you "here's some stuff in your collection". My first instinct was that these visual displays would be SELECTABLE, such that while album art shows in right column, maybe you could click select, and it might go to COVERFLOW mode with THAT item selected (rather the song that is currently playing already)... the idea being: "hey i haven't heard that in a while - I want to hear it now." But no, there is currently no such functionality -- though Apple Cupertino may be previewing that capability on the ipod TOUCH and the iPHONE. I don't know, don't have either. I love the size of this nano, way more than a larger palm device-sized object in my hand. This is just one of several interface mysteries about the nano 3rd generation video model. Others include: How do keep the EQ menu option one click away? What does "Radio" mean in the menu? Is this for an external FM component, or is it meant to be a placeholder for iTunes wifi connected radio? After all, if it is replicating items in your iTunes application, there would seem to be a one-to-one relation: itunes music syncs to ipod music, itunes videos sync to ipod videos, iphoto photos from within itunes sync to ipod photos, iTunes TV episodes sync to ipod TV shows. So it just seems natural, to me, that "Radio" is meant to relate to iTunes radio... But currently there is no way to sync up your iTunes radio stations with your nano -- becasue the nano doesn't have an internet connecton... yet. My prediction is that the next nano will be touchscreen, and will have wifi built in. But til then, "what's that RADIO menu item for?" :) |

quicksite ::: Favorites 2007-12-08 00:26:38 Don't you think the next nano ipod will be touch screen, with wifi, and it'll perfect everythg they tried on ipod touch? __________________________________________________
quicksite ::: Favorites 2007-12-08 00:25:01 I hear you.. Appl's product design is 2nd to none, but drag when they intentionally cripple features because they compete with thier proprietary music download servie. But I would PAY for net radio wireless access, since its the kind of music i work best to. __________________________________________________
quicksite ::: Favorites 2007-12-08 00:14:08 The song is called "Dead Already" -- track 1 of the amazing soundtrack score to film "American Beauty" by composer Thomas Newman... (he also happens to be randy newman's cousin) the whole score is great, you can sample tracks here: amazon(DOT)com/gp/recsradio/radio/B00003XACV/ref=pd_krex_listen_dp_img/104-6467684-3349500?ie=UTF8&refTagSuffix=dp_img __________________________________________________
victoranselme ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 20:33:46 What is the name of the song? thanks __________________________________________________
dragoshu ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 11:32:25 im even amased they made the radio remote! ithought the ipod is condemned of radio and bluetooth forever because of their itunes store. and u know that the bt on iphone isnt fully functional for the same reason - at least thats what i think :) __________________________________________________
dragoshu ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 11:31:49 i dont think u can do that with a nano...u might have a chance with the touch or iphone (a non-official shot, this means u have to jailbreak them and u might find a software) but its a loooong shot!think about it!why would apple do that?since they wanna sell tracks with the itunes wi-fi music store?! __________________________________________________
quicksite ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 04:11:41 (thank you! Finally figured that out at iLounge... Now that I know it's for FM only, here would be my "workaround"... but I doubt it exists... see reply please) __________________________________________________
quicksite ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 04:10:05 Broadcast on FM the kind of specialty genre channels found on internet stations, so I could use such an FM add-on to hear the kind of music I like. Otherwise it's wait for a little wi-fi accessory that plugs into the nano, allowing you to connect to itunes. (Does the ipod touch have itunes internet radio integrated, so when within wifi signal he ipod lets you select internet channels to listen to?) __________________________________________________
quicksite ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 04:08:49 Hmph :( Now that I know it's for FM attachment, lemme modify the question: Do you know if any of the great internet radio channels (such as found on iTunes) simulcast on FM radio channels in various cities? Too much chatter on most FM stations to make the music worth it. Ultimately I would subscribe to a service that did just that: __________________________________________________
dragoshu ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 02:39:31 The radio menu is for the radio remote and it doesnt give u itunes radio id gives FM radio :) __________________________________________________
